Having organised track and field fans individually to events since the 1983 World Champs in Helsinki and with the first large group arrangements European Track Tours in 1984 & 1985 David Barnett established TRACK & FIELD TOURS in 1990 with the first major tour events the 1991 European Cup Final in Frankfurt & World Champs in Tokyo.
Appropriate then that as T&FT celebrates 30 years Tokyo has once again been the main focus of 2020 / 21. The best ever Men’s Long Jump contest as Powell and Lewis duelled to finally erase Beamon’s WR will last in the memory for ever. Liz McColgan’s gold and the unforgettable triumph of the GB Men’s 4 x 400m team were the GB highlights. However, Dalton Grant entering the High Jump Final at a then “world record” opening height of 2.31, passing 2.34 (!?) and clearing a PB of 2.36 was a startling athletic vignette all by itself and, though sadly only sufficient for 4th place, it was wonderful!
The 4 x 400 relay squad celebrated with our group after their victory – Kriss with a youthful David when hair and big glasses were in style!
