More than 2,000 athletes and team officials from more than 180 countries will gather for the 16th World Junior Championships in Athletics. The 16,500 seats Ratina Stadium has regularly hosted age group championships most recently the European Under 23 event in 2013 to which we organised a group of fans, coaches and family supporters. Spectators will be able to see the world’s very best junior athletes in action. Tampere is Finland’s second largest city and its picturesque location between lakes Nasijarvi and Pyhajarvi offers an enjoyable European break combined with top class Junior athletics.
As the venue for the 2013 Under 23 European Junior Championships we are familiar with both the city and the Finnish Federation organisers and we have already secured sufficient well priced and well located accommodation for our group of fans and the friends, family and coaches of selected athletes whether British or from other countries too.

HOTELS:
SCANDIC HOTEL 3* Superior
Situated in central Tampere, the hotel offers free Wi-Fi and air-conditioned rooms with a flat-screen TV and minibar. All the brightly decorated rooms have a laptop safe box and a large work space. Each has a private bathroom with shower or bathtub. A variety of dishes are served in the urban atmosphere of the bistro restaurant. In summer, meals can be enjoyed on the street level terrace. Guests can work out in the gym or relax in the sauna. Bicycle rental is available on site. The Tullikamari Culture Centre is 100 yards away. The Stockmann shopping centre and Tampere Hall are both within a 5-minute walk from the hotel. The hotel has offered us special rates that are subject to availability depending upon the time of booking. The stadium is a 1 km / 15 mins walk from the hotel.

KAUPPI HOTEL – 3*
Situated 15 mins walk from Tampere Central Station and the main street, Hämeenkatu this family run hotel offers free use of its pool and sauna facilities, a popular and generous breakfast buffet and free WiFi is available throughout the property. The Hotel Kauppi’s quiet rooms have a seating area and work desk as well as a microwave, refrigerator and tea/coffee maker. The hotel has a bar and restaurant. Surrounded by sports and recreational areas the Kauppakeskus Tullintori Shopping Centre is only 700m away. The stadium is 15 mins by a choice of buses from the hotel or a 2.5 km / 30 mins walk.

FLIGHTS:
There are no direct flights from the UK to Tampere (TMP) and the only regular reasonably priced connections depart London Heathrow with Finnair / BA via Helsinki (HEL) – with good connections the total flights journey time can be from 5 – 6 hours including transit in Helsinki. Early bookers could benefit from these services with competitive airfares. For other UK departure airports - or for late bookers dependent upon team selection - flights to / from Helsinki with return rail travel to / from Tampere from Helsinki Central rail station will either be the only option or most reasonably priced. Allowing up to 3 hours to fly to Helsinki and up 1 ½ -2 hours for the transit to the rail station to catch a train plus the 1 ¾ hrs train journey the total journey time is likely to be 6 ½ - 7 hours.
