Doha in Qatar hosts the World Champs for the first time in the Middle East providing an ideal opportunity to visit this vibrant modern city and to embrace the culture of the region.
With first class facilities, a fan friendly schedule and reasonable prices a warm welcome from hospitable hosts awaits those fans open to enjoying athletics in this new location.
The event scheduling reflects the location with the end of September start date and the daily session timings. Temperatures in this period are 28-34 C during the day and cooler in the evening: at the Seville 1999 event it was close to 40 C during the day and mid-30s during the evening - unlike 1999 the Marathons and Walks will be held at the coolest time around midnight. The programme is compact with just one stadium session per day to travel to / back from. Fans will have plenty of time to lie-in after any late finishes with time to relax or sight-see.
T&FT’s Comprehensive Doha Programme
Our strategy for handling a more esoteric event location and climate is to offer a carefully planned all-inclusive programme based upon private T&FT managed air-conditioned bus transportation with excursions and cultural exchanges in order to create a unique and interesting event experience supporting the stadium competition schedule. With all sessions starting at either 16.30 hrs or 19.00 / 20.00 hrs there will be plenty of time for relaxation using our hotels pools and spa facilities. Our chosen hotels are all within walking distance of the old town, souqs, major museums and the Corniche seafront promenade and park. With local public transportation options slow and not so reliable or comfortable you will have exclusive access to our T&FT buses for travel during the day around the city, for our excursions venturing further afield to the historic forts and desert landscapes outside of Doha as well as for stadium transfers.
T&FT staff and our local guides will co-ordinate this as well as assisting fans around the souqs, exotic markets, museums and local restaurants. We aim to provide a unique cultural adventure enabling fans to enjoy the excitement of the championships supported by our unmatched experience of organising fans at every IAAF World Champs since the inaugural event in Helsinki in 1983. Whilst international branded hotels in the futuristic West Bay area of the city may have an edge this hotel offers excellent value and a first class long stay base for guests. All rooms have a bathroom with a bath / shower, WC and hairdryer, air conditioning, multi-channel TV, telephone, internet access / WiFi, air conditioning, mini-bar, tea & coffee facilities and safe. Breakfast is buffet style. There is a choice of a la carte and buffet restaurants with a bar, coffee shop and a terrace café. There are indoor swimming & plunge pools, a gym, sauna, jazuzzi & spa / wellness centre. The event scheduling reflects the location of these Championships in Qatar with the end of September start date and the daily session timings. Temperatures in this period are usually 28-36 C during the day and cooler in the evening - at the Seville 1999 event it was often 40+ C during the day and mid-30s during the evening. Unlike 1999 the Marathons and Walks in Doha will be held at the coolest time around midnight. The Khalifa stadium will also be operating an air conditioning system that will moderate temperatures for the athletes and spectators in the arena. The programme is compact with just one stadium session per day to travel to / back from. Fans will have plenty of time to lie-in after any late finishes with time to relax or sightsee.
